This is the first thing that popped into my head once I heard the theme, so I decided to just go with it. Pinkie Pie, Applejack, and Twilight Sparkle facing off against Lavos, from Chrono Trigger, because why not?
...mmmh... I wonder who would fill the roles of 'Magus', 'Frog/Gleen', 'Ayla', 'Marle' ?
Rarity could be 'Magus' (though Twilight might be better, because of her powerful magic. But Lucca fits Twilight better, for all the other things.) or 'Marle' (a princess)... Fluttershy could have been 'Robot' or 'Marle'. Rainbow Dash seems to go well with 'Ayla'... or maybe 'Frog/Gleen' (knight for the royal family, loyal and etc...).
...mmh, Trixie could fill the extra-character that is Magus ?
WHAAAAAT?!?! PINKIE as Crono?! BUCK NO! It would TOTALLY be Rainbow Dash as Crono! I mean, come ON! Crono is cool like her, fast like her, heck, his element is LIGHTNING! Pinkie Pie would make a MUCH better Ayla! (Hmm, while I'm at it... Rarity would be Princess Marle, Fluttershy would be... Crap... She AND Rarity would make an excellent Marle... OH! No, make Rarity Frog just for the lolz! XD (You know, she wants to be a princess, kiss the frog, eh, eh? XD)
Still, Chrono Pony? The GREAT and POWERFUL Trevor salutes you, brony! Trevor approves of this pic!
It's true, Dash would make a very good Crono. My reasoning for choosing Pinkie is I think it's silly to have her in place of a silent protagonist, and I had just drawn Rainbow Dash in another picture and didn't feel like drawing her again just yet. So there you have it.
C'mon internet, don't disappoint me! I want this FanFic, and I want it now!
Me, I haven't finished Chrono Trigger. Why? Cause it's SO LONG! xD And that's still from the guy who tend to play Europa Universalis for a couple of hours straight... also may be because I don't really know where to head to at the moment... seems like I don't have anywhere to go from where I am.
No matter my experience with the game, the FanArt is awesome! Thumbs up for you!
Eh, I'm not too concerned with it not getting a comment in the wrap-up, given that I'm an admin and was there posting comments myself. Just kinda how it goes (and the other guys there posting comments when I submitted it haven't played CT, so I don't blame them)
There are a couple different interpretations of which pony fits which character, and the one you list is definitely a good one as well. I liked Pinkie as Crono because it's such a silly juxtaposition (Pinkie Pie in place of a character that doesn't speak).
Drawing Lavos was definitely a chore, but I think it turned out pretty well so it was worth it
(And your Blues pony avatar is still awesome, hah)
Well, I think that's the point -- it's not a big deal not to get a comment, but the lack of one makes me feel like people just didn't know what to say or didn't know what it was from, and everyone should play CT at some point in their lives. I guess I understand that just not everyone's into JRPGs and stuff, but I guess I'm guilty of CT being "that thing" for me. Y'know, the one game/book/movie/whatever that comes along when you're prepubescent and are just barely becoming mature enough to grasp concepts like character growth and drama and for the rest of your life you look infinitely fondly back upon it. I think for most people my age that was FF7 -- but the point is, it's something you view as almost perfect even though it certainly has imperfections, and wish everyone could experience it the same way you did even though you know it's not for absolutely everyone.
I love your reasoning for placing Pinkie as Crono, I assumed it was more because she has the closest thing to 'red hair' but that's excellent. I actually like playing around with which pony fits which character in various other things, too, such as FF13 which I recently finished. When I become a better artist, I'd love to draw crossovers like that.
and yeah, to even be able to say you drew Lavos in the shell is something to be proud of as an artist, I think!
(and thank you, I keep wanting to draw something better but that's still gotta be the coolest avatar material I've done so far)
I know what you mean about CT being "that thing" for you, as I feel much the same way about it. I love everything about it (in fact, my username was actually AtlurMagus before I decided to shorten it, the Magus part specifically being from CT). Whenever I have to name things, names from CT are the first that usually come to mind (my phone, computers, mp3 player, car, etc). And I've convinced most of my friends to seek out and play it, as well. There are few games I hold in as high a regard as Chrono Trigger
For me, it'd be that, Secret of Mana, and a cache of other SNES games (like Super Metroid, Link to the Past, Mario World 1 and 2, etc) that really "do" it for me; extremely nostalgic, make me feel warm and fuzzy just to play them, and all that. But CT's the only one that's really "deep", with strong characters and character growth, an intriguing and twisting story, and things like that. Not that Super Metroid isn't deep in its own way, not that Secret of Mana isn't also an epic adventure with a great story (albeit a much simpler one with far less dialogue and a less impressive translation), but CT's just leaps and bounds beyond... pretty much everything. I just felt like I grew close and attached to those characters, like reading a really, really good book, more than I ever have with any other video game, and I always tend to get really 'into' any game I play, so that's saying a lot.
Well, there's at least two good fanarts that've been around since at least the beginning of 2011 that have Dash as Crono, and once I saw the first one I had to deduce the best fit for all the characters;
Crono = Dash, for the reasons you listed plus the whole lightning bolt cutiemark / Crono being all about lightning. Marle = Pinkie, simply because Marle's the most bubbly of all the characters and is the only one that'd make sense as Pinkie Lucca = Twilight, they're both geeks and bookworms that're all about mixing magic with science (also fire) Frog = Rarity, her prim and proper attitude match Frog's middle-ages sensibilities and and they both seem to have a fondness for big shiny things (in Frog's case, a sword) (also, it's just funnily ironic to play Rarity as the frog, don't you think?) Robo = Fluttershy, this is mainly based upon their attitude and personality about things, and the whole Fiona's Woods sidestory just cements it Ayla = Applejack, they're both brash and straightforward and very physically strong and love to kick things. Also look similar. Magus = Trixie, the whole 'kinda bad guy kinda good guy' thing works, the whole 'magician' thing, and even a similar colorscheme, capes, etc. It just makes sense.
that all being said, I very much enjoy the characterizations represented in this pic and I think they make sense in their own way as well. With these three in these positions, I imagine Flutters being Marle and Dash being Ayla, and it still works.
Well...Luna as Janus, technically, and Nightmare Moon as Magus. Probably delevels back to Luna either during the fight with Rarity's Masamune/GranLeon or more likely, with Lavos itself, when she also loses all her really cool Shadow-element spells.
I actually would assume, in that scenario, that Nightmare Moon would be the 'big bad halfway-through-the-game boss' you'd fight at the end of a castle filled with cronies, while Luna Eclipsed-style Luna would be what you'd get in your party later in the game as a not-so-bad guy. I'd imagine Celestia would have been a good Zeal though in this scenario I guess she'd be Schala and Faust would be Zeal... though I imagine Luna would fit perfectly as Schala for a number of reasons.
Keep in mind too that my last post here was way back when this image was new, during season 1. There's so many new possibilities now, like.. what would Discord be? He's the biggest 'big bad' in the series so far and like the Lavos Core is an amalgam of various creatures, so maybe that could work... haha, with two little Screwballs instead of the lavos pod things.
